The transportation sector is working to transition from petroleum-based fuels to alternative energy. With this comes questions regarding the transition’s environmental promise and its overall feasibility based on technological, economic, and accessibility criteria. Through a literature review l evaluate the benefits and challenges of popular alternative fuels (e.g., electricity, hydrogen, natural gas, biofuels) and specifically examine their potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and their feasibility for widespread adoption
Currently, the city of Newark suffers from severe food scarcity. This is created by critical barriers related to affordability, accessibility, and a lack of trust in the origin of the produce. These factors contribute to Newark being called a “food desert.” The community strongly prefers to buy food from local bodegas (small shops) which remain more trusted. Our novel project aims to leverage trust in these local bodegas to distribute produce grown by and for the community. We aim to connect local partner schools, urban farming principles, leverage real-time supply chain data, and hope to improve both access and affordability to fresh produce. This is a youth driven model of sustainable agriculture, scalable with a localized economic system with community as a focal point
Collaborating in a Pingry team research project investigating coral symbioses, focusing on the relationship between corals and their symbiotic algae, zooxanthellae. Designed and currently implementing methods to analyze horizontal symbiont transfer, using 18 (RNA primers and DNA sequencing techniques to identify specific algae strains
