The USA is home to many attractions, one of which is the marvelous Sequoia trees, thought to be around 2000 years old. If you have kept up with the news lately, you might have read about the wildfire spreading throughout Yosemite. CNN reports the famed Giant Grizzly tree had sprinklers installed around it. According to NASA, around 61% of total fires in the west happened after 2000. The increase is mainly due to the above-average temperatures and a lack of rain leading to very dry conditions.
As Reported by Nation Interagency Fire Center, since 2000, the amount of acres that wildfires have burned is currently about double the prior 2000 average. By 2050 Climate Central projects a doubling of the acres burned once more. One of the main enemies is climate change. It is predicted that Climate Change alone will increase the amount of land burned per fire by 50000 acres(NASA). Climate.gov suggests that global warming has increased the planet by one degree and rapidly increasing. By 2100 the Earth will be anywhere from 2 to a staggering 9.7 degrees warmer. Decade after decade, these wildfires are becoming increasingly more powerful.
As a society, we have not come together collectively to solve this climate crisis with the seriousness that is deserved. If we keep going, we will lose the climate war and the human race will become extinct.
